Spliff Committee

The Spliff Committee actually had ten players in one of their games this weekend. Those that did make it out to the game, brought their A-game. The Spliff won both games 6-1 and 14-3. Bobby Stealz was stellar on the mount and at the plate. Mr. Banana Boat hit 3 HR’s in the second game and recorded a bunch of strikeouts on the mound.

The defense was flawless…No errors in the field. The Cat Stabber Figgs was on the prowl today, Stabbin’ balls left and right, even chipping in with some offense.  Mikey Muscles, a.k.a Cousin Jessie, suffered an injury in the second game, but stayed in like a warrior to finish the game out…even picking up some hits. Sweets and Raw Dawg also contributed with HR’s, and N-Lights was 4-5.

All in all, a nice day at the park…for those who could make it.

It was a beautiful day to play softball. Sunshine, 80 Degrees, all that fuzzy stuff. That was unfortunate news for the Spliff Committee, as they would’ve been much better off staying in bed on a rainy day than playing softball.

The Spliffs lost both games badly. Pitcher Bobby Steals didn’t have his best stuff, or even good stuff, and the defense didn’t help matters either. We saw a variety of homeruns; grand slams, three run shots, solo shots, etc. The offense wasn’t exactly stellar either, scoring 4 runs in the first loss and 5 runs in the second. Although Towne Deli was on top of their game offensively and defensively, the Spliff Committee should have put on a better showing.

The first game started off really competitive and energetic. The lead was exchanged a few times and The Spliffs had the lead after 3 innings by 3 runs. That lead was quickly erased however, when Towne Deli’s #5 batter hit a grand slam over the head of Mikey Muscles. From there it went downhill. In fact, the game was called in the middle of a 6 hour 5^th inning for Towne Deli, when it was clear The Spliffs weren’t about to record any outs against their opponents. To make matters worse “The Cat Stabber” Figgs had to pull himself from the game due to a calf injury.

The carnage quickly spilled over into the second game, and the Spliff Committee was quickly trailing. Raw Dawg came in to pitch to close out the game, giving up two runs in four innings, but the offense couldn’t mount a comeback this time.

The record now stands at 5 – 8. There is still time to comeback and finish the season strong, but we are going to need hard work and team work. LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Noteables:

• We managed only 1 extra base-hit in second game
• The Towne Deli hit the cycle of homeruns; from Grand Slam to Solo HR.
• Nothing else notable happened. Oh yea, Chris G fell into the mud.

1. Tuch – For having the sensibility to leave after one game and save some self respect.

2. Chris G – For some nice plays in the field and a good game at the plate.

3. Mikey Muscles – For his continued domination at the plate and in the field (rolls eyes).

Spliffs were victorious today, taking the first game 10 – 2.It was raining most of the day, and the second game was called after 2 innings. Full recap will be available tomorrow.

Notables:

• Franky “The Stabber” Figgs was in full effect today.
• Trips made a couple of nice plays behind the plate, with a nice grab and a play at the plate.
• The Spliff offense exploded with 3 Hr’s.

Special Guest Trips Recap:

So you wanna recap of the game, do ya? Real shit…real shit. Chris G had a hit in tha first game and that was it. Everybody got up twice…real shit. The NY Bluejay’s pitcher had a pretty good change-up/fastball combo, but still…1 hit?.

In the second game, that “pretty good change-up/fastball combo” was no match for me, I mean Trips. Trips, had 5 rbi’s, two homers, one of which was a patented “get the fuck outta here” blast. Maaaamoth blast.  But wee still lost 8 – 6….Real shit.

Oh yea, Stealz went 0 – game and was slapped around a lil bit. Real shit.

Whaddya goin’ do. There’s always next week at South Beach. Fuggedaboutit.

The weekend rains cleared out by Sunday morning, and the game was on. The fields were actually in good condition, though you wouldn’t know from the defense showcase put on by us. The Spliff Committee was swept this weekend, losing by scores of 7 – 4, and 14 – 6. There wasn’t one significant factor to the losing; sloppy defense, sleepy bats, and okay pitching against the Cutting Edge team that played nearly flawless defense and hit seeds across the diamond.

Despite a lingering hamstring injury, Stealz still pitched (and hit) well enough to win. Unfortunately the team couldn’t rally around him.

Notables:

• Team walk leader Figgs logged his first hit of the year.
• Spliff only managed two extra base hits combined for both games.
• Trips was out of the lineup this week with a sprained vag.

Boxscore:

Spliffs swept the double header today at Willowbrook Park this afternoon. The offense was in full effect today, scoring over twenty runs over two games.
